Emily Hart was a rude and typical teenager who took
things for granted and who did not understand her mother and had never tried
until it became too late to do so. She and her mother were abducted by a
spaceship on the way to church when Emily was only thirteen years old.
Experimentation on her mother results in her death and then Emily herself is
experimented on and her biology changed. She finally escapes them and goes back to her hometown. She
never ages and keeps completely to herself, not wanting to draw attention to
herself. She also jumps through time due to severe emotion after becoming a
blue flaming inferno of fire.
She has promised herself almost 20 years after she
escaped the ship, she will never get involved with anyone but ends up helping a
young girl, falls in love with Derek, a young gang member who reforms himself
and seeks help from Jim, an ex-marine who knows more about Emily than she does
about herself. Together they all try to figure out Emily's dilemma and need to
lead a normal life as possible before time runs out.
When I read the description and first few chapters, I
assumed this would be just another UFO abduction book which are my least
favorite stories. I was pleasantly proven wrong! While it had the element of
abduction, it was only one small aspect of the story.
Author Falconer has taken a completely new and fresh
approach to the subject while making sure the story is engaging and full of
suspense and mystery and I had to read both books all in one sitting as they
kept me on the edge of my seat. These two books are full of so many twists and
turns that the reader will never see them coming and along with the element of
first love between Emily and Derek, the story is brilliantly created and
magnificently well written. The only complaint I have is that I need the next
two books! I have to see how Emily's story turns out and what happens to Derek
and Jim too.
Author Falconer is truly a breath of fresh air for this
reviewer with his unique writing and ability to masterfully craft such a story
as this. This story is very engaging and hooked this reviewer at page one and drew
me right in and held me there on the edge of my seat until the very end. The
story and plot are very well-written with no grammatical errors and is very
well thought out and developed. It gives the reader an adequate amount of
downtown after each climax before building back up to the next one again. The
characters are complex and very realistic as is the story. The descriptions and
dialogue are also believable, realistic and easy to visualize which only
contributes to the magnificence of the story. The characters jump right off the
page in such a way that the reader cannot help but care about what happens to
them.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a
complex plot with more twists and turns than you can imagine and who love a
highly fascinating, refreshing and engaging read. This professional reviewer
has her own rating scale from 1 to 20 stars for a book and this boxed set is
definitely 20+ stars! It is just that good!
