BOOK REVIEW: LONG AGO MEMORIES BY JUDITH ANN MCDOWELL

Long Ago Memories by Judith Ann Mcdowell

This is one of the best books I have read in a very long time and of course I am biased because Native American stories are the dearest to my heart. Being Sioux myself, I have a great fondness for those that can come close to depicting what my ancestors went through on both sides Sioux and Blackfoot. Author McDowell does that wonderfully as well as holds true to the belief that the spirit never dies and is sometimes reborn again. This book was heartbreaking at some spots and almost a haunting reminder of the past in others. It is a book everyone should read at least once. It is not only well-written with twists and turns, it is hauntingly beautiful and complex in its storyline and in the development of the characters that you cannot help but love. I fell in love with Appearing Wolf, Tia, and Pehta all three and they still remain in my heart long after the story is over. Thank you so much to this amazing author for telling stories of a people that too often don't get the recognition they deserve, having been forgotten and pushed aside even today by our government.
